Conic Collection

A porcelain tableware collection developed with Billy Lloyd.

I worked on Conic, a porcelain ceramicware collection whose original reference pieces are shown below. Hand-made by Lloyd in the early 2000s, Billy guided the design vision while I sculpted the digital surfaces.

We used SLA (resin) printing to iterate and validate our work. For the quicker prototypes, Billy taught me how to turn high-density modelmaking foam on a lathe.

To iterate quickly, I developed an efficient digital modelling workflow, which allowed us to find the right balance of mug angle, volume and ergonomics.

The spout went through many physical and digital iterations to perfect the softness of the curves from all angles, designed to a G2 surface continuity.
